Hi, everyone! Today’s post will be a little different from the ones that I usually do. This would be a restaurant review. Last month, I went to TGI Friday’s, a famous restro-bar that serves mouth-watering Tex-Mex/American food. Those who follow me on Snapchat and Instagram must already know that. I was accompanied by my sister Sohini and my fellow blogger/best friend/sister Kinkinee. You guys should definitely check out her blog Gupshup Avenue. She has some amazing fashion and food related posts on her blog.

We already had a table booked for us. Upon reaching there, we were welcomed and seated by an attendant. Then we were handed with the menu. Our server told us about their ongoing offers and promotions. TGI Fridays is known for their varied range of exciting deals. They have deals on food and drinks like Happy Hours and Rs 77 Menu. Happy Hours is a buy 1 get 1 free deal on all drinks everyday from 5pm-8.30pm. Then there is Rs 77 Menu in which you can get exciting new cocktails & straights (including appetizers) for Rs 77 each. Isn’t it cool?

My First Time at TGI Fridays, Kolkata Review| Cherry On Top

When we visited TGI Fridays, there were two new offers going on. One was the Endless Food and Drink offer and another was Frank’s Red Hot Menu. We decided to order our starter from the latter and main course from the regular menu. So, we ordered Frank’s Red Hot Chicken Wings for starter and for the main course we ordered two items- Cajun Chicken and Shrimp Pasta for me and Fish n Chips for Kinkinee and my sister. We had also ordered soft drinks and lemonade.

Frank’s Red Hot Chicken Wings @ TGI Friday’s, Kolkata

My First Time at TGI Fridays, Kolkata Review| Cherry On Top

Price- 6 pcs for Rs 350/-; 12pcs for Rs 665/- (excluding taxes)

When we ordered this we had a feeling that it might be too spicy (that phrase ‘red hot’ is scary!) but it was not like that. The chicken pieces were tender and succulent. There was the perfect balance of spices and the red hot sauce added a bit of kick. The wings were topped off with crisp celery sticks and bleu cheese dressing. They served it with tartar sauce.

Cajun Chicken and Shrimp Pasta @ TGI Friday’s, Kolkata

My First Time at TGI Fridays, Kolkata Review| Cherry On Top

Price- Rs 550/-

The chicken and shrimp in this dish were juicy, tender and perfectly cooked. The pasta was cooked with sautéd red bell peppers in creamy Cajun Alfredo sauce. They top it off with Parmesan cheese and green onions. You can choose your own pasta. I chose Penne.

Things to keep in mind: Their portions of food are quite big. Remember this before ordering.

Overall, I had a great time there at TGI Friday’s. I wasn’t feeling well that day so I couldn’t enjoy my food. Definitely looking forward to my next visit. I would like to try their desserts as well.

This place is perfect for hanging out with your friends accompanied by delicious food and best cocktails. The restaurant has a very rustic and retro pub type of look to it, but at the same time, it looks very contemporary. The seating arrangement is very nice. It adds to the comfort that this place has to offer. The tables are well lit. Check out their website for more info.

You’d have watched me use my new Tupperware Ultimo Speedy Chef to mix the cake batter. Now in this post, I’ll share the simple recipe with you and will let you know the features of the cute little device that I used. The recipe was originally published on POPxo‘s Facebook page. So, let’s get started-

Tupperware Ultimo Speedy Chef is such a fuss-free, easy-to-use kitchen tool for working men and women and also for those who don’t like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen and for those who are constantly in search of something that makes cooking easier. This small kitchen aid is dishwasher and microwave safe and takes very little space in your kitchen. It comes with an anti-skid foot ring. It also has measurements written on the body which is really helpful. This Speedy Chef is basically a manual whipping and whisking tool that could be used to beat eggs for omelettes, make mayonnaise, mix cake batter, whip fresh cream, whisk egg whites faster than your usual whisk and also, it is noise-free, unlike your electric beater. Obviously, it is not as fast as an electric beater but you can regulate how much smooth or coarse you want your mixture to be. Plus, it has a hole on the top of the handle which allows you to add flavourings while mixing or whisking anything. Here is all that you can do with your Tupperware Ultimo Speedy Chef-

  • Prepare whipped cream for decorating cakes and desserts. Add flavouring such as vanilla essence through the funnel.
  • Prepare light pancake batters, omelettes, mousses and other whisked desserts.
  • Prepare light mayonnaise or dips. Remove the cover and whisk in your favourite freshly chopped herbs and flavouring.
  • Prepare wonderfully light sponge cakes, pavlovas and meringues by beating up egg whites in the Speedy Chef.

Disclaimer- Product sent by the brand in exchange for an honest review.

Three things that I have always (not so) secretly desired are a perfect matte red lipstick within budget, a wallet that never gets empty and a packet of healthy chips. Well, although I am still on a hunt for the first two but I have finally found the latter.

Recently, when my sister and I hosted a party at our place we though we should do something adventurous with the snacking option. As both of us were busy studying the entire day, we rejected the idea of cooking snacks ourselves and instead we thought of serving Terra Chips to our guests. I had heard a lot about this brand before and I did not want to miss this opportunity to try them.

We had three variants of Terra Chips- Original, Mediterranean Sea Salt and Blue Potato. We chose three different dips for our chips.

We served it at the beginning of the party and our girls loved them. Two batches were finished in minutes. It was that good. Generally people don’t like to stuff themselves with food at the beginning of a party, especially if it is chips or something fried. But, Terra Chips are not just chips, they are gourmet snacks with less oil and spice which is healthy and comforting.

At the end of the party, my friends said that they had never eaten something like it before. Our party-starter was a hit. I am quite sure Terra Chips would be a part of every party we will be attending after that party.

About Terra

Terra is a brand of chips that is famous across the globe for their exotic flavours and ingredients. If there is anything called a luxury snacks brand, that definitely has to be Terra. TERRA is a brainchild of two New York-based chefs Dana Sinkler and Alex Dzieduszycki.  This brand is famous for its gourmet snacking.

How is Terra Different from Others

Snacking Adventure with Terra| Cherry On Top

Not typical to other brands, Terra is quite distinguishable from its packaging to taste. Terra chips are made with real vegetables. The exotic vegetables like Taro, Candy-striped beet, Blue potato, Batata, Yuca etc. are some of the main ingredients of these chips. Terra chips are a blend of these real, whole vegetables with mouth-watering flavours. These chips are not only a good blend of flavours but also a blend of vibrant colours.  The crunch, the taste will definitely take you on an exotic culinary journey.

My Experience with Terra Chips

When I received this beautiful black box with three variants of Terra chips, I was overjoyed. Firstly, I love healthy snacking (I should eat healthier though) and lastly because I had heard a lot of good things about this brand. I received the three variants, namely- Mediterranean Herbs and A Hint of Lemon, Original Sea Salt, and Blues Sea Salt. All of them tasted quite good. The Mediterranean and Original ones are made of Parsnip, Taro, Sweet Potato, Yuca and Batata and Blues is made of naturally blue potatoes. Among all three of them, Blues is my most favourite one. All these variants have the goodness real veggies in them and the veggies are non-GMO which means they are not genetically modified. In one word, they are wholesome. The flavours are fresh, really crunchy and less oily. It gives you a feeling as you are eating something healthy. These are also great as party starters when you serve the perfect assortment of snacks that is a treat to both your tongue and your eyes.

I would recommend you guys try at least a bag of this and try it out yourself. TERRA chips are available online on Amazon or you can buy them from your nearest Godrej Nature’s Basket store. I hope you guys found this review helpful. Don’t forget to comment and share if you did. See you in my next post. Till then, be safe & keep smiling!

As you would know, Restaurant Week India, 2016 has started in Kolkata and is about to end in a few days. Read the pre-event listing here. I am a big foodie. This is the only reason why I became really excited when Restaurant Week India invited me to taste some special menu for the event. They gave me a few choices of restaurants in the city among which I chose Yauatcha. The reason why I chose Yauatcha is, I have heard a lot of rave about this restaurant from my foodie friends and secondly, I wanted to try some food from the city’s first Michelin Star restaurant. I took my sister along with me.

We had a table booked for us by RWI team for lunch. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were escorted to our table by a staff. After we made ourselves comfortable, the manager (I am really sorry, I can’t remember names :/) came to us to know if we are comfortable there. We were served welcome drinks. Mine was a Lime and Passion fruit drink and my sister got a Strawberry one. At this moment, the manager introduced us to the chef, Kushal Lama (I remember his name because I have his business card). After exchanging greetings, he explained us all about Yauatcha, its start, the menu and what they aim to. Yauatcha is a pure Cantonese restaurant, opened in Soho, London in 2004. It’s first branch in India was opened in Mumbai. Without further ado, let’s get into the most important part of this post, the menu or rather the special menu.

With Chef Kushal Lama of Yauatcha, Kolkata

The Restaurant Week India special menu at Yauatcha is divided into three parts which is the three course- appetizers, main course and dessert. You get a choice to choose one from each menu along with staples like rice/noodles for RS 900/- per person (tax extra). Honestly, I have no idea about Cantonese food and I did not want to mess up my experience by experimenting, so I asked the chef to suggest which dish should we go with. The chef was really happy to do that for us.

Wrapped Chicken in Pakchoi with Szechuan Sauce

Crispy Prawn Cheung Fun in Light Soya Sauce

So, from the appetizer menu, he suggested us to try the dumplings and the cheung fun which are their specialties. He suggested the Wrapped Chicken in Pakchoi with Szechuan Sauce and the Crispy Prawn Cheung Fun. The first one is a steamed dumpling where Pakchoi which is a Chinese green is filled with diced chicken and yam bean and then steamed and served with szechuan sauce. The second one is basically a roll in which steamed rice paper is wrapped around crispy fried prawn dipped in tempura batter and served with sweet soya sauce. Both of the dishes had a very subtle flavour to them. I loved the Crispy Prawn Cheung Fun a lot and I would recommend you guys to try it out. The steamed outer part and crispy inner part gives it a very unique texture which I loved. My sister, on the other hand liked the dumpling more.

Chicken and Egg White Fried Rice

For the main course, chef Lama asked us for our choices and we wanted to go for a prawn dish and a lamb dish. We went for the Sliced Lamb in Kam Heong Sauce and Stir Fry Prawns in Home Town Chili Sauce. The lamb was tossed with diced veggies like yellow bell peppers and onion and the Kam Heong sauce.  I found the lamb a little chewy. It was not as soft and juicy as I would like it to be. Both of us liked the prawn more. The prawn was blanched and then tossed with some veggies and the Home Town sauce which is a little spicy and tangy. I must say this dish hit all the right notes. We had also ordered the Chicken and Egg Fried Rice along with these two dishes.

Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse

For dessert, we had only four options among which we both agreed for the Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse. Chocolate any day! This dessert was so blissful that the taste is still in my memory. It was actually a mousse served with ice-cream. I haven;t tried anything more divine than this in a long time.

We both enjoyed our food and the overall experience was really good. The chef was always there by the side to assist us learning about what we were eating. The entire staff was so soft-spoken and helpful and the ambiance of the restaurant was really peaceful.

OLA Prime Presents Restaurant Week India is about to end on May 1st. If you want to try the special menus then book a table now. You have visit RWI’s website to book a table.
