30 Things I Learnt Before I Turned 30

As you are reading this post, I have just turned 30 somewhere under the blue sky. To be very honest, I have been thinking about this day since my early 20s. Turning 30 is like turning my mom’s age when she had two school-going kids! Most of the 90s girls can relate to this weird feeling where turning 30 has always seemed to feel like a distant dream and at the same time, it has been too tempting to step into this new milestone in life. Anyway, to sum up, I would say that I am a little nervous yet very excited to enter this new phase in my life. After all, you age like a fine wine and also someone told me 30 is the new 20!

Like every other person in this world, these thirty years of my life has taught me so many things- good, bad, ugly that gradually and eventually helped me grow as a human being and made me who I am today. These events have taught me not to regret anything in life rather make your failures your opportunities to start afresh in life. Today, in this post, I will tell you 30 things I have learned before I turned 30. This post might get a little lengthy but I promise I won’t make it boring!

To me, ageing is like an upgradation. With every year, you upgrade your inner and outer self, your mental state and your life’s vision by adding or eliminating things, vibes and people depending how much value these things are adding to your life. 30 is the age when you are almost aware of the fact that it’s more practical to stop clinging onto things or persons that no longer serve you and there is nothing wrong in that. The only way we age, at least for me, is all in our mind. For instance, mentally, I feel I am still in my early twenties or maybe late teens. That’s why I never dreaded turning 30 though it surely feels crazy to realise how time flew and landed me here.

Anyway, let’s start the part you are here for! Thirty years is enough to learn almost 90% of our life lessons. Some might have been hard for you and some might have been delightful but overall they all have helped you to grow into this beautiful person that you are now. Here, I am sharing mine-

  1. Love other people but not at the cost of your self-esteem.
  2. Never take any moment of your life for granted.
  3. Live in the moment.
  4. Everything happens when it’s destined to happen. Never force anything.
  5. Family comes first.
  6. Get out of a toxic relationship be it your family member.
  7. Sometimes it is better to silently distance yourself from people rather than get yourself into a conflict.
  8. Count your blessing.
  9. There is nothing like being humble and kind.
  10. People can be qualified yet uneducated.
  11. Find joy in little things.
  12. There is nothing called a right time to start living.
  13. There is no replacement for hard work.
  14. It’s okay to reset and start afresh.
  15. Taking breaks are necessary.
  16. Only invest in something that brings you peace.
  17. Mental peace is the most important.
  18. Never let anyone take your emotions for granted.
  19. It’s okay not to be in everyone’s good books.
  20. Journaling helps overthinkers a lot.
  21. Sunsets are my most favourite thing to watch every day.
  22. The moon/moonlight makes me happy.
  23. Negativity attracts negativity. So, it’s better to distance yourself from negative people and negative thoughts.
  24. When you stop procrastinating, great things happen.
  25. Patience is the key.
  26. Not everyone is qualified to be called a friend.
  27. Pretence irritates me to the core.
  28. Don’t judge a book by its cover.
  29. Life becomes more beautiful when you embrace it without asking anything in return.
  30. NEVER GIVE UP. Good things happen when you least expect it.

Even though turning 30 is still so far from reality to me, I am going to cherish every moment of this new phase in my life, make memories, be hopeful and grateful and lastly, I will always stay young at heart. Looking forward to the journey ahead ❤️️

The texture of Cutishine Anti-acne face wash is like that of a gel and the consistency is quite runny. The face wash is transparent and has no colour whatsoever. It contains tiny white and golden beads in it which help in gently exfoliate the skin while cleaning it.

The smell is quite like an aftershave or a gent’s EDT. The smell isn’t something I am really fond of. I find it a bit strong for my liking. I love skincare products that are mildly scented.

Having been suffering from occasional acne (mainly hormonal) and ‘blessed‘ with oily skin, I never stop searching for that perfect wash for my skin. I have been using this face wash for the past few weeks and I think this is something I definitely should continue using this.

When I started using this face wash, I did not have any active acne. So, I cannot tell you if this removes pimple or not but it certainly helped me keep the occasional pimples at bay. It delayed the arrival of the pimples and as I continued using this, it completely stopped them from appearing.

But, acne is not the main skin concern that I have, it’s the oiliness that bothers me more than the occasional pimples and this face wash has effectively taken care of that. It removes any traces of the excessive sebum that my skin produces during the night and gets accumulated mainly around my nose. Also, the tiny beads in the product help gently exfoliate the skin, unclogging the pores. These beads are not at all harsh on the skin thus could be used on a daily basis.

Despite removing all the extra oil from your face, this product does not dry out your skin or make it stretchy at all. Both Tea tree oil and Salicylic acid work wonders for the acne, tea tree oil is also a great anti-oxidant that fights free radicals. Glycolic acid and Salicylic acid are gentle exfoliants that remove any dead cells from the skin without being abrasive on the skin. Liquorice helps brighten the skin giving it a radiant look. Glycerine and D-Panthenol are great humectants that help moisturize the skin without making it oily. Aloe vera helps the skin soothe and adds a bit of moisture too. Overall, the ingredients list is quite impressive which makes the product totally safe to use.

Despite being engineered for oily, acne-prone skin, it’s suitable for all skin types.

Mamaearth Coco Face Scrub comes in a classic plastic tube packaging. The flip-open lid is quite secure and spill-proof. Overall, I found the packaging very sturdy and sleek. You can easily carry it with you.

Also, all the information about this product is written on the tube, including ingredients and manufacturing and expiry dates which I found really handy.

Texture & Smell

Mamaearth Coco Face Scrub has a very creamy texture. It’s loaded with micro-exfoliating particles. The consistency is not very thick or not to thin thus it’s quite easy to work with it.  The thickness of the product is just perfect so no need to mix it with water. 

The smell is exactly like exotic coffee and a bit of cocoa. Quite obvious, right? The smell actually helps in calming my senses to some extent. Using it in the mornings can actually help you wake up. I find it exclusively great or me as I am a coffee lover. The scent is quite raw and not at all chemical-like. The best thing about the scent is that it’s not very strong or overpowering. It’s mild and relaxing.

My Experience with MamaEarth Coco Face Scrub

Scrubs are one of my favourite skincare steps. I love this particular product for several reasons.

  • Firstly, this is a very mild exfoliator. The granules are loosely packed and are not very abrasive. That’s why it doesn’t feel harsh on the skin. My skin has been acting up lately. It gets bumpy and sometimes sensitive. This scrub doesn’t irritate my skin.
  • The second thing I love about this product is that it doesn’t make the skin dry or stretchy. I have used many scrubs in the past and most of them had a tendency to make your skin look and feel dehydrated. Gladly, this one doesn’t. Rather it keeps the skin moisturized even after cleansing it thoroughly. The shea butter in it makes sure your skin is well-nourished and hydrated. This results in a soft and supple skin every time you use this scrub.
  • The aroma of this is another thing about this scrub that I love. The coffee and cocoa smell makes your mornings even more energetic and also help you relax on your tougher days. 

Overall, I found this product very impressive and effective. It gently exfoliates the dead cells off of the skin leaving it nourished and hydrated. It also effectively removes blackheads too. The skin feels soft and smooth after application which I really like. Although this product is a little on the expensive side I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a 100% Indian, natural, chemical-free and hydrating exfoliator. #VocalforLocal

Although I was familiar with the concept of gummy nutrition, I did not have any experience with any. So, I did not know what exactly to expect and how long it might take for the results to show up. All I knew was I have to take 2 gummies daily for 21 days as the number of gummies in one pack is 42.

My Experience with Within Glowing Skin gummies

To be very honest, when I started with these gummies, I wasn’t really sure if this is actually going to be beneficial for me. Yes, I was sceptical. On the initial days, I did not find any significant change in the appearance on my skin. Honestly, it felt a little disappointing. But, I am so glad I did not give up on those. Now that I am writing this, I realise, the glow started to occur in the starting days itself but it was so subtle that it was not perceivable enough. My experience with Dot & Key Hand cream and Sanitizer- Lavender & Peppermint has been great. I use it as a hand cream as it gives intense hydration to dry hands. Also, the light texture of this cream allows you to penetrate deep into the skin, providing it with nourishment that it requires and at the same time, it does not feel sticky or oily. 

I am not quite sure if I would recommend you this as a hand sanitizer because this is a time we should not take any risks. If you are looking for a product solely for sanitizing your hands, you should go for something that has 60% or 70% alcohol in it because that will be most effective. However, the Dot & Key Hand cream and Sanitizer would be a good option for sanitizing your hands if you are at home and want to do your makeup or skincare with sanitized hands.

Although I love the formula so much and considering the fact that you require a very little amount of product for both your hands, I still feel it is quite expensive for a 50ml tube.

A Trip to Lansdowne

I have mastered the art of isolation, and mountains have always helped me externalize my emotions. The few friends that I am left with, they keep telling me that I rubbed off my personality from a mountain. I usually take that as a compliment. Mountains were my first love – the only constant that I have opened my heart to.

I have travelled to almost all the recognizable hill stations across the country. I used the word recognizable since the place that I am about to talk about is often overlooked, even though it is quite a convenient place. Lansdowne, unlike Manali, Shimla, or Rishikesh, deserves the same amount of attention and ardour – I think it does except it has managed to keep itself secluded from the mainstream at the height of 1700 meters.

Hike, Pray and Love

I think I had a brief moment of epiphany when I realized that corporate life was not meant for me. Not to romanticize, but Delhi is a sentient being, it speaks volumes to me. And, when you are a loner, you do get to observe these small details. So, I had to test this theory out and see if the travel life wants to choose me. Lansdowne seemed like a quaint place for me to know if I wanted to travel for the rest of my life.

Lansdowne can be reached by road – located in the Himalayas; the streets are only convenient routes. It is roughly a six hours drive from Rohtak, which is why I booked a convenient taxi service in Rohtak. Delhi to Rohtak takes about an hour and a half. Rohtak might seem like an inconvenient route for me, but I had to make the detour – there was some personal business that required my attention. (See, even in writing, my loner instincts won’t let me divulge details of my life)

Lansdowne – a slow respite

People often say that you aren’t to be left alone with your thoughts. But Lansdowne is for folks who’d love to be left alone with their thoughts. Don’t misplace it as an ideal tourist spot; it is neither commercialized nor urbanized. This place served as a recruitment ground for British forces to supply the workforce to the Garhwal rifles. So, I knew what I was getting myself into. Even though it is a place of respite, I had to make a travel itinerary. I wasn’t just going to sit around and brood.

 A bit of leftover colonial history

Lansdowne is a fading reminder of the colonial history left behind. Named after the then Viceroy Lord Lansdowne, its resonating silence is the most beautiful part.

Quitely Exploring Silence

Navigating silence is an art, so is silence. After a good night’s sleep, I woke up early to walk around the town.

I was suggested by a group of travellers that I visit old St. Mary’s church. The church stands erect like a goth queen, which harmonizes with the town’s residing tranquillity. I walked around the church and was able to catch a glimpse of the Himalayan mountain range. The peace here is addictive, almost makes you lethargic, normalizing your inner monologues. By the time I left St. Mary’s, I had enough monologues to add to a feature film. I did not feel like visiting the Bhulla Tal – not a massive fan of water bodies.

I started to retreat for the day, reaching the Mall Road late in the evening. I managed to get some snacks and some dinner. The city life seemed to have spoilt me; everything here closes down by 7:30.

Trekking at Kalagarh Wildlife Sanctuary

I decided to go for a small trek since what’s the point in just loitering around. Before I went for the trek, I decided to make a stop at Tip n Top to view the majesty of snow-clad Himalayas. Don’t worry, Himalaya is the kind of cameo that will keep appearing throughout the journey.

Kalagarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of the Corbett landscape and a natural haven for wildlife of Lansdowne. Although it seemed a bit far away from Lansdowne, I did not mind this subset of a trip to Kalagarh.

The theory of a choice

After Kalagarh, I planned for my return to Delhi. I think I am ready to travel. And, this trip helped me realize that. This perhaps is my calling – not being a white-collar corporate slave.

Note: If you want a smoother travel experience, try booking a cab from Delhi to Lansdowne. It will recommend the following route – Delhi – Ghaziabad – Modinagar – Meerut – Khatauli – Mirapur – Bijnor – Najibabad – Kotdwar – Lansdowne.
